Sajama National Park

Sajama National Park

Bolivia in its rawest form

In far western Bolivia, near the Chilean border, Sajama National Park reveals one of the country’s most spectacular and untamed landscapes. Dominated by the majestic Nevado Sajama, Bolivia’s highest peak, the park unfolds across the high-altitude plateau with snow-capped volcanoes, arid plains, and shimmering lagoons creating a scene both stark and grand.

Here, space feels endless. Roads stretch across wide open lands dotted with vicuñas, alpacas, and flamingos, while small Aymara villages reflect a quiet and deeply rooted human presence. Geysers, natural hot springs, and ancient queñua forests — among the highest in the world — add unexpected variety to this mineral landscape.

The park invites both contemplation and adventure. Hikes lead to remote lagoons and volcanic slopes, and experienced climbers may attempt the ascent of Sajama itself. Due to the high altitude, taking time to acclimatize is essential to fully enjoy the surroundings.

National Park stands out for its purity and authenticity. Less visited than other Bolivian highlights, it offers a powerful immersion into a raw, luminous, and deeply moving landscape.
