Sacred valley
The living heart of the Peruvian Andes
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is a place where history, nature, and Andean culture blend with an almost magical harmony. Nestled between Cusco and Machu Picchu, this fertile valley, crossed by the Urubamba River, once served as the agricultural heart of the Inca Empire. Even today, it carries a deep, soothing energy that feels timeless.
Each stop reveals a different side of the valley. Pisac is often the first discovery, with its impressive agricultural terraces clinging to the mountainside and its lively craft market, perfect for an initial immersion. Perched higher up, Chincherocharms visitors with its authentic atmosphere: a small colonial church built on Inca foundations, villages where traditional textile techniques are still very much alive, and open views over the snow-capped peaks of the Andes.
Further down the valley, Urubamba and Yucay offer a gentler pace of life, shaped by giant corn fields and everyday local rhythms. Ollantaytambo is undoubtedly one of the most striking sites: a monumental fortress of perfectly fitted stones, an Inca village still inhabited today, and a powerful sense of stepping back in time. It is also one of the main gateways to Machu Picchu.
Nearby, the mysterious circular terraces of Moray fascinate as much as they intrigue. This true Inca agricultural laboratory showcases the ingenuity of the civilization, which experimented with different crops using natural microclimates. Not far away, the Salt Mines of Maras offer a truly unique sight: thousands of white salt ponds, exploited since pre-Columbian times, forming an almost unreal landscape that changes with the light.
The Sacred Valley is not just a place to visit, but a place to experience. Whether explored in a single day or over several nights, on foot, by car, or by bike, it invites you to slow down, observe, and reconnect with what truly matters. A journey into an authentic Peru, shaped by sacred mountains, living traditions, and unforgettable landscapes.
